The history of 40+Philippines

Invited by a friend in February of 2001, when "webcamming" and booting were never heard of in yahoo, ladydragon visited a chat room, which name she can no longer recall.

She found the room packed to the "rafters" and was overwhelmed by the size of it.  "Hmmm this is quite a big room", ladydragon thought.

She was more delighted when his friend introduced her to the chatters in the room. Then someone greeted her and asked: "Hello ladydragon, pleased to meet you, can you tell us your asl pls?

"Thanks, I’m 41 F from the Philippines"

"Whattttttt??? 41 ka na, nag chachat ka pa????!!!

"Hmmm, so this room if full of kiddows, huh.   I'm sorry. Anyway, I just drop by to say hi to my friend who happened to be here. I better go now. Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!"

The humiliated ladydragon was forced to exit.

Then an idea came to her, "What would happen kaya if I make a room, which I would call "40+", for older people? How many people would join kaya???

So ladydragon created 40+.


40+Philippines.

The name 40+Philippines was patterned after #40+Filipino and #40+Manila, 2 of the most popular filipino chatrooms in the late 90s in IRC dalnet.

The chatroom's first guess was marizeth aka lola_tesyang, ladydragon's roomate at #40+Filipino.  Marizeth was also ladydragon's co-Super Operator in a channel which they call #babaes.

"Ano na naman tong ginawa mo Milay? Another chatroom na naman besides the one we have at dalnet?" was marizeth's initial reaction.

"Shhhhhh kaka create ko lang nito tisay, let's try yahoo this time, at titingnan natin kung madami bang magka interest magjojoin dito". "Let’s see how many adult Filipinos are into yahoo chatting".

In a spur of the moment, 40+ was flooded with curious chatters who were also in their "prime of their lives", so to speak. All of them asked the same question "Mga 40s ba lahat dito??

The 40+'s early chatters  included chickboi_43, bhabes_pb,  joker_five_zero, phoenix_ph (aka cameo_ph), woman_file, ligaya20002000, ekis_pinoy, ormoc.geo (aka snus_general), justliketowatch, nurse2000, ajr362436, angie, yna_south, star_ph,  jacklas2001,  mehb12 (aka textmaheart), sweetIsnabera, elliot_womanizer, jim_croce2000 (aka alang_dating, mahilig_sa_chubby2000), b_e_a_u_t_y (aka rizza), mustang_lady, simple_asian30, pink_kulasa, cherriejo, peelyah, lonelyman120868, besspren, wildrose at iba pang nalimutan na :D.

Singing was already the in thing at 40+.  Popular singers among the regulars included mahilig and snus_general, textmaheart.

Joining the chatroom in not so regular basis (until lately) were the  singing nightingale, which included kewl1only, hazel_nuts, sheebomm, jessamae and philusa. With them were equally good male singers mltr, Imnz (omar), wenceslao and others.

Later batches included edison_ca, jjramparador, daboy, brunow, nonie, etc.

A lot more came and 40+ was never the same again. The rest is history.

Lately, 40+Philippines have suffered much of its success. A handful of bastards are frequenting the room and running scripts to boot chatters out.

Anyway, having existed for more than a year now, 40+ has become one of the favorite chat rooms in Yahoo, frequented by adult chatters, mostly Filipino, from all over the world.

It has become a venue for exchanging pleasantries and has been instrumental in fostering friendship among and connecting Filipino chatters around the globe.  Also, the chatroom has become the "concert hall" for talented singers who come to the room to relax after a tiring day at work.

To all those who frequent the channel, thanks a ton for being part of us!!!!

Special thanks go to the 40+ die hard who had been in the chatroom through thick and thin.  Nonie and textmaheart  together with nurse and wildrose, the St. Peter of the room (tag open ba).   Goofy, another 40+ diehard who has been doing the same thing starting January of 2002.

Added to the stable of hosts are the chatroom's  new catch: chanel_allure, marlynn (hmmmm the lollipop gurl), goofy, harley_rider_chicago, a_truebull,  contessa, serafew (the most-sought-after-gentleman of 40+), longhair_gemini, ennaojenistyrk, devilicious, lezliejo,   kosa, silda (and her concert?), topeng and his dramaaaaaa   and all those who made 40+ a home to every chatting adult Filipino all over the world.

Mabuhay ang 40+!!!!!
